Does the World Really Need Another Blog ?

I have spent the last several months pondering whether I should throw myself into the world of blogging. There are  enough blow hards, cyber trolls and attention craving humanoids polluting the digital landscape. During my research I sought programming advice from my tech savvy web designer friend. He mentioned that he didn’t know much about blogging. He tries to avoid blogs. So I asked myself the questions, “What am I hoping to accomplish? Does the world really need another blogger?”

Some of my blogging motivation comes from my need for Scooby snacks. Social media doesn’t feed the creative mind. It’s mostly for catching up with family photos, getting some daily doses of humor and trying to avoid getting outraged at someone else’s outrage. There’s also that whole food picture thing we all do. Any social media post longer than two sentences is going to be ignored. We’ve all experienced it.  You wait for someone to “like” what you wrote but the “like” won’t come because they won’t hit “continue reading” . Your latest manifesto goes unnoticed simply because no one is sure if they agree with the half of the post they aren’t going to read so they simply pass on clicking.  Then you notice they liked some photo of the latest drunk crackhead freak pushing a shopping cart through the world’s largest retail chain but they skipped over your post.  Who cares? No big deal?  I want more.

My need to mentally connect with other humans can not go unrequited. So now I will cast my words out  into the digital ocean where they can hang out and travel at their own speed. No more waiting. The turnaround time is infinite.  One day someone may open up their laptop and uncork the bottle that drifted from my send key to their screen. It’s the perfect solution. My words will be found.

Another inspiration for blogging is my need to have an official record . I am a big fan of the television show American Pickers. This show frequently has episodes where people are  sharing these stories and memories about their fathers and grandfathers. Sometimes they find journals and diaries that people have held onto for years.  I have no thought documentation. I have no yellowing pages chock full of handwritten notes.   My hand hurts too much to write longhand these days. I will offer this blog as my journal. I have a lot of catching up to do.  Maybe someone will print these blog entries and keep them in a folder. Maybe a long time from now, in a new magic land, they will be found on a bookshelf somewhere. Someone will say…“Oh those are some writings from my Great Great Great Great Great Great Deda.” (note: Deda is the Serbian word for Grandpa).

I often seek wisdom in the words of one of my spirit guides, Corpus C. Redfish (father of  the legendary Travis W. Redfish). Corpus Redfish often told his son, Anything worth doing is worth overdoing”My wife can attest to this noble truth that I embody wholeheartedly. This brings me to another key inspiration for blogging.

My mother in law embodies the Redfish spirit.  She became an author at an age where other people were kicking back at Shady Acres. She didn’t go through all the hassles and headaches of publishing deals just to make a buck. She did it to satisfy something inside her that needed to be set free. One day someone will find her books and manuscripts on a bookshelf. People will read her stories and she will speak again. She will introduce herself to a stranger. Time travelling from beyond sounds amazing.

So does the world really need another blogger?  Probably not. But to quote the great R.E.O. Speedwagon, “I Can’t Fight this Feeling Anymore.”

My particles of thought have collided and given birth to Cranial Circus and Cranialcircus.com.

Welcome to the show.
