Alone in Silence

(copyright 1991 Southside)

Here we are in silence

Our bodies draped in fear
Tell me why I’m lonely
When you’re near

Is it just a memory?
That we hide away
If the broken heart still lies
Was it all in vain?

I don’t really think I know
I don’t really think I care

It’s just me being with you
Being with me
We try to reason and compromise
Our love…
So tell me why I try?

Now I know you’re lonely
Even when I’m near
The sands of time still hold us back
Memories filled with tears

It’s our own sweet justice
By some grand design
Emptiness still fills our hearts
Loneliness fills our lives

I don’t really think I know
I don’t really think I care

It’s just me being with you
Being with me
We try to reason and compromise
Our Love
So tell me why I try

Fun Facts: Before Southside was formed, I was in a major an early Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones vibe. I was writing and recording a lot of acoustic rock tracks that were in that wheelhouse. I was in the embryonic stages of working with a three piece project.. “Alone in Silence” was primarily composed in that transitional time before Earl (guitar) and Kevin (bass) came on board. Once those two joined, we became a full band and then they added their own parts. Earl fortified the drive of the song with a little palm muted electric guitar that added more edge on top of the open chords I was jangling.
