Build your wall in front of me
Tearing it down so I can see
Painted smile and so obscene
When I crack the whip
Gonna make you scream
Cards on the table, set the pace
First you beg for mercy
Then you put me in my place
Another shot to tempt me, slow suicide
When the glass is empty, move aside
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Life of the party, king of the scene
Filling it up with everything
Hide your head in a shot of gin
Now the trouble starts
When the fun begins
When the game is over
And you need a taste
To clear cobwebs from your head
Quick addiction, slow suicide
Getting mellow’s easy
When the glass is dry
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Fun Facts: This was one of the main songs for our Southside. It was our anthem, We usually performed this right before an encore of AC/DC’s “Whole Lotta Rosie”. It’s a ripping song that includes a slowed down bass groove bridge with guitar accents.
The smoldering slow groove section was designed to bring everything from an “in your face” pace to a slower smoky groove with lush slow guitar fills and a little audience clap-along. Our bass player, Kevin, could step up and be the focus of the mix without all the guitar chord chugging.
People sang along with this one. Our friend Steve was in a much heavier band. He liked to come on stage and add some background growl to the chorus. He even liked to join us in band practice to to add that same growl. Hammerdown is a no holds barred full throttle tune. I still play this song whenever I am ending my practice sessions at home. This is easily my favorite tune to play.
