Lady Sunshine

copyright 1992 Southside

Hello Lady Sunshine, it sure has been a long time
Sleeping through the day, then you wake in the night
Thinking of the day when you’ll shine a new light on love

Sunshine,
You have paid the price
Momma ain’t home, and Daddy’s gone away
Wasting all your time trying get away from life

I never said it was gonna’ be easy
Never surrender, just keep on believing
Sooner or later your life may be right
When the world’s weight’s on your shoulders
I’ll be there when you breakdown to hold ya’
Never denying the light of my lady’s smile

Look at Lady Sunshine
Drowning in a bottle of cheap wine
Drinking through the day, trying to get through tomorrow
Hurting herself as she deals with the sorrow of love

Sunshine, things will get better in time
You’re so young babe, you’re only a child
It hurts you today, but it’s just for a while so smile

Fun Facts: This was was an epic song. It was was a big change of pace in the live set. I have to once again tip my hat to Earl, the other guitar player in our band. He added some great fills and melody lines. Of course there was another awesome guitar solo.

Earl did a lot of the guitar solos on the tunes I wrote. I wound up doing more of the guitar solos on his songs. It’s a pretty cool way to do it. When you have two guitar player/songwriters in a band, letting the other guitarist handle the solo for your compositions allows them to add their own melodic twist into the song.

During the early stages of bringing a new tune to life, we might hum a little lick or two we’d like the other guy to play, but typically we just cut loose on each other’s songs with own fills and solo ideas. Since our writing and playing styles were quite different, the infusion of the other contrasting style into each composition made it a lot of fun.
