Jezebel Me

copyright 1993/2021

Pardon my discomfort
Goodbye my affectionate friend
You used your useless, less used excuses
Hanging on in the end

You’ll be chokin’ endlessly
For my token sympathy
And when the cloudy skies don’t get clearer
You gotta scrape the lines off of your mirror

Dancing on a dare
When you walk down the street
I blame it on myself
When you Jezebel me

Hypnotizing lies
When you’re wrapped in the sheets
I blame it on myself
When you Jezebel me

The stress proof pills you’re taking
Can’t cure your social disease
You can’t get out, been pushed around
Thank you babe for using me

And when I’m choking endlessly
For some token sympathy
I’ve seen my better half down in a hole
I had a half a heart that never was sold

Dancing on a dare
When you walk down the street
I blame it on myself
When you Jezebel me

Hypnotizing lies
When you’re wrapped in the sheets
I blame it on myself
When you Jezebel me

I blame myself..yeah yeah..
Don’t you know I blame myself
Jezebel yeah yeah..
Don’t you wanna Jezebel me?

Fun Facts: This song was composed in 1993 while I was in a super major Rolling Stones/Faces period and the groove reflects that swagger. I even envisioned female background singers bolstering the second and fourth lines of each verse.

I was never really content with the original chorus. There was a setup line.. “I blame it…” followed by a repetitious repeating of the line “On Myself”. This year I revisited the song. I still like the lyrics, melody and music. It vividly captures that chapter of my life. That chorus remained brutally weak. It also didn’t quite gel with the feel of the verses.

So I decided to mentally time travel back to that situation. Hence the two copyrights on this one for 1993 and 2021. it took me about 30 minutes to remember where I was emotionally when I wrote the song all those years ago.

I combined it with the events that transpired after track was written. Then the new chorus and song title “Jezebel Me” was born. Adding to that Stones vibe, I can hear the same female background vocals on the new chorus. That’s a nice twist since it didn’t really didn’t fit in with the old version.

Thank you for taking the time to dance in my Cranial Circus.
