The Covid-19 viral pandemic is a whole new frontier. I believe we must resist too many conspiracy theories as well as too many declarations that this is God’s way of punishing us.
While it very well may be an Illuminati style conspiracy or a divine driven plague, it is quite possible that it is neither. I caution too much apocalyptic end of times punishment train of thought because it implies that those who die of this horrid thing deserve it. That is a very broad brush stroke. I also caution against the twisted web of the secret society theories. The “bad guy” is already predetermined to be people that are ideologically opposite of the person formulating the theory.
Maybe God is waiting for us to figure this out because we created this virus through our own negligence. Maybe it naturally developed through mutation. This pandemic could lead to a cure for other deadly maladies that lie ahead.
Miracles
God still brings miracles even in this time of gloom. God has granted us more than we deserve. We are recipients of God’s love. He freely gives it to us even though we let him down time and time again. I don’t know why he sticks with us, but he does. That love doesn’t grant us a free pass to heaven. Nor is a believer necessarily a better humanitarian or citizen than person than the non believer.
We can’t live a faith of total introspection. While we strive to improve ourselves we must bring the light of Christ to the world. Maybe this pandemic situation will mobilize a new awareness. I don’t believe every hurricane, earthquake, typhoon or other disasters are inherently the result of divine wrath. Nevertheless they could be. If the Lord has tired of this human experiment he certainly can pull the plug in whatever manner he sees fit. There very well could be so many spiritually mangled folks he’s ready to just pitch it all out and start over. He doesn’t really need us to figure out what he is doing or why he is doing it. Are any of us really qualified to even attempt to read God’s mind?
What I Know
I am not a theologian or a prophet. My knowledge is broad a handful of things. I am simply a grossly imperfect man who is trying to figure it all out just like everyone else. Rest assured, there are a lot of people hurting right now. There are also a lot of people that are picking up the light of Christ and shining it on their fellow man. Let’s try to keep feeding that light. Maybe that’s what this is all about.
Parishes are finding new ways to worship and come together. We are beaming more local Christian programming to people everywhere because we have to find a way to reach people. Maybe he is preparing us for something bigger down the line. People that do not attend church aren’t affected by cancelled services. Maybe all those live stream internet services will help people with social anxieties bond with a local parish. Now that is definitely Christ in motion.
Maybe Covid-19 is a direct attack from a deep seeded clandestine global new order. Maybe it isn’t. Maybe the Lord is punishing us. Maybe he isn’t. Maybe we just need to appreciate life more than ever before. We need to find new ways to change as change is forced upon us. Maybe we just need to tell Caesar that enough is enough. Whatever it is, pray that we will rise above it. Pray that we will figure it out. The world is on fire.
